I'm Alida Frey
I grew up in Northern Virginia, where my parents, former dancers, had a lot of modern dance photography and art on the walls. I loved looking at the composition in the photos, the lines the bodies made. We went to the ballet, art museums. I spent my summers at a girls camp in the Adirondack’s of upstate New York.
My summers at camp spawned my passion for the magic of the wilderness and the idea of the feral female. I loved mysterious tales of wayward women, or a band girlfriends that looses themselves in the woods, becoming more wild and bonded to one another each day they are lost.
I studied painting at Boston University, and abroad in Venice, Italy. After graduating I moved to Brooklyn, NY where I continued to paint. In 2011 an Artists residency at the Pajama Factory brought me to Williamsport, PA. I continued painting at the PJ Factory until the allure of the west coast took over and I moved to Santa Cruz, California. There I opened a small studio/gallery in Felton called Harlequin Dime and I quickly fell deeply in love with the mountains and backwoods of Northern California. Today I live and paint in the foothills of the Sierras, on a forested hill, next to the American River.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
